Frequently Asked Questions

Do I have to sign up to use PykUp?
No, you can respond to any invitation without signing up. You do have to sign up to initiate events or to manage and organize your events.
How do I kick off my own event?
First you'll need to be logged in (which means signing up, if you haven't already). Then click 'New Game', add email addresses for your pals, and off you go.
What do you do with the email addresses you collect?
We send announcements of upcoming events. That's it--no spam; and we won't ever sell or give away your addresses, or through neglect allow your addresses to be used to send spam.
It's asking me to click on a link in an activation email. What's that?
When you sign up, PykUp sends you an activation email with a link in it. You have to click on the link in the activation email so that we'll know you're a person with a real email address. If you turn out to be a spambot with a real email address, we will *just know* and will come and remove your electronic innards.
My response changed, but I didn't change it! What's going on?
Invitation emails for events are user-specific. If you forwarded your invitation to somebody else, then they can reply on your behalf. That would be bad, so instead of forwarding you invitation email, log in and use the 'forward' feature instead.
Can invitations be extended to others who weren't on the original list?
Yes, if the initiator leaves the box checked that allows forwarding of invitations. (Sometimes it's locals only, y'know.) If the initiator for the event allows it, then respondents just log in to add more emails to the list of invitees.
Is there an easy way to invite the same people over and over?
Of course! Each time you create an email list for an event, PykUp saves it for you so that you can select a list for use later on. Manage your distribution lists under 'Lists'.

The Fine Print: logic of PykUp

  1. The initiator of an event sets a minimum number of participants; as soon as the number of yes's reaches this number, the event is confirmed at the earliest time that those participants can all make it.
  2. If the minimum number of participants is never reached, then the event is never confirmed, and no email is sent.
  3. The initiator of the event does not have to attend the event; she confirms her participation just like everyone else.
  4. Participants can cancel even if they are confirmed, except when their cancellation would cause the number of participants to fall below the minimum threshold. This means that, in order for an event to cancel, the person who is bailing and causing the cancellation will need to send an email or call people in order to cancel. This is intentional.
